The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls Delta police responded to in the previous week:
*Dec. 6, 6300 block 120 Street: Police were dispatched to a reported break and enter after CCTV captured a suspect opening the side door of a business. Once on scene, police noted the suspect had stolen approximately $3,000 worth of goods. The business was unoccupied at the time of break-in, and the file is under investigation.
*Dec. 7, Ebury Place: Police were dispatched to a late report of theft from vehicle occurring between Dec. 3 and 6 at the same address. The owner noted entry was gained by prying the door, and found the vehicle’s wheels had been stolen and replaced with a different, old set. Tires valued at $2,000.
*Dec. 8, 11900 block 88 Avenue: Police were dispatched to a theft in progress at a local business, and upon arrival, located the suspect in the area where they were arrested without issue. Upon identification, they were found to have additional outstanding warrants and condition not to be found in the store in question. Police transported the suspect to Surrey cells for holding.
*Dec. 9, Alex Fraser Bridge: Police were dispatched to a reported distress call after a motorist observed a pedestrian pacing the bridge mid-span. Police located the distressed individual, who advised their mental health was deteriorating as of late, and police apprehended them under Sec. 28 of the Mental Health Act and transported them to hospital to receive the care they needed.
*Dec. 9, 3:30 p.m., 8400 block 112 Street: Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was reported stolen, taking all four occupants into custody without issue. Upon identification, several of occupants had outstanding arrest warrants, or were breaching previous release conditions. Two were taken to Surrey Cells for holding.
*Dec. 9, 9:19 p.m., Annacis Island: Police were dispatched to a reported distress call after a caller advised their friend was experiencing a psychotic break and was speaking nonsensically. Police located both parties and successfully apprehended the distressed individual under Sec. 28 of the Mental Health Act before transporting them to hospital where they were offered care by medical staff.
*Dec. 12, 11:37 a.m., 11800 block Pinewood Drive: Police were dispatched to a reported theft from auto after a catalytic converter was reportedly cut off and stolen from a vehicle parked at a residence sometime in the past week. No suspects or witnesses due to the delay in reporting.
