North Delta Crime Beat: Officers respond to several break and enters

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. Here are a selection of files for the past week:

*Oct. 31, 9:22 p.m., 7900 block 120 Street: Police were dispatched to a group of youth reportedly openly drinking alcohol in a parking lot and driving away. Police arrived and located a driver with five passengers attempting to leave. Police read the driver the breath demand, which resulted in a “WARN” reading. Police issued them a driving prohibition, and a ticket for driving contrary to restrictions. 

*Nov. 1, 7:01 a.m., 7300 block Wilson Avenue: Police were dispatched to a reported break and enter. A van had been stolen from inside a business compound, with keys inside. Entry was gained to the compound by cutting off a deadbolt. Police recovered the stolen van, unoccupied, on Nordel Way moments after the report. 

*Nov. 2, 3 p.m., 11400 block 77 Avenue: Police were dispatched to a reported theft from a vehicle parked overnight in a driveway. The locked canopy was accessed via cut cable lock and punched canopy handle locks, with tools valued at over $2,000 stolen from inside. 

*Nov. 3, 9:47 p.m., 11600 block 92 Avenue: Police conducted a traffic stop to check for sobriety after observing a vehicle cross into on-coming traffic. Police read the driver the breath demand, which resulted in a “FAIL” sample. The driver was served a 90-day driving prohibition and mandatory 30-day vehicle impoundment notice. 

*Nov. 5, 2:17 p.m., location withheld: Police were dispatched to a late report fraud after the complaint advised them of a months-long investment scam. The complainant was asked to transfer money to a public crypto wallet and after converting the money to crypto currency, to send the money to him through another crypto exchange. Nearly $100,000 was transferred. Police note the complainant did not know the recipient. Those interested in investing are advised to use established firms. The BC Securities Commission has advice for investors on their website at: www.investright.org.

*Nov. 6, 3:02 p.m., 8400 block 120 Street: Police were dispatched to a person allegedly exposing themselves in a parking lot. Police located the suspect, detained them for indecent acts, and identified them. Police queries subsequently revealed two outstanding warrants, and the suspect was taken into custody without issue.

*Nov. 6, 10:47 p.m., 11400 block 88 Avenue: Police were advised that a young Pomeranian dog was found in the area. The dog, named “Princess,” appeared to be in good health, and stayed in the officer’s vehicle until police successfully reunited her with her worried owner.

*Nov. 6, 11:10 p.m., 7100 block 120 Street: A bicycle was reported stolen from the front entrance of a local business after the complainant advised they parked it unlocked for 15 minutes. The investigation is ongoing.
