The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. Here are a selection of files for the past week:
*Oct. 19, 17:22 a.m., 7900 block 116 St: Police were dispatched to a reported mischief after the complainant reported their vehicle had had its rear window smashed with a rock sometime overnight while parked in their driveway. Nothing stolen and vehicle appeared otherwise untouched. No suspects, witnesses or CCTV.
*Oct. 20, 12:23 p.m., 6700 block Baker Road: Police were dispatched to a reported theft from vehicle from an unlocked vehicle parked in front of a residence. Entry was gained without damage, and a purse containing multiple cards was taken and subsequently used for purchases. The investigation is ongoing.
*Oct. 21, 9:08 a.m., 8900 block 120 St: Police observed a vehicle exit a liquor store parking lot before attempting to park in another stall without success. A traffic stop was conducted, with an Approved Screening Device demand read and understood. Two breath samples were provided, and both returned with “warn” reading. The driver was issued a three-day driving prohibition and subsequent three-day vehicle impoundment.
*Oct. 21, 4 p.m., 9600 block 120 St. Police conducted a traffic stop with a cyclist who wasn’t wearing proper safety equipment. The cyclist repeatedly provided false ID and was subsequently arrested for obstruction, at which point proper ID was located in their possession and confirmed. The cyclist had multiple warrants for their arrest, and was taken to cells without issue.
*Oct. 22, 10:19 a.m., 8300 block 115 St: Police responded to a late-report break and enter after the complainant observed an unknown male attempting to open their front door. The complainant yelled at the male from a window, who claimed he was drunk and thought it was his house. Area patrols negative. Police are awaiting CCTV of the incident for further investigation.
*Oct. 23, 2:59 a.m., Nordel Way/120 St: Police were dispatched to a report of an erratic driver swerving all over the road. Police located the vehicle and noted a distinct odour of liquor emanating from the drive’s breath while presenting ID. A breath demand was read and accepted, with the driver being issued a 12-hour suspension and having their vehicle towed.
