Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast and the Gulf Islands are no longer a vacation option this summer.

That’s what a number of readers have indicated following our recent Optimist online poll. We asked readers: Are B.C. Ferries cancellations and schedule changes impacting your travel plans? The poll ran from Jun 22-27 and there were 177 participants.

Of the four options to choose from, 26 percent opted for “Yes. I’m avoiding travel to Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and the Gulf Islands. I don’t need the hassle of ferry cancellations.”

Another 18 percent opted for: Possibly. I’m keeping an eye on the situation and might change my travel plans if it gets too crazy.”

The leading answer with 46 percent of the vote was “No. I wasn’t planning to take B.C. Ferries to begin with. Rounding out the votes was 10 percent with “No. I’m assuming B.C. Ferries will sort out the problems before the summer travel season.”

Results are based on an online study of adult Delta Optimist readers that are located in Ladner. The margin of error - which measures sample variability - is +/- 7.34%, 19 times out of 20.
