Ever wondered what Richmond and South Delta look like from space?

Well, an astronaut on NASA’s International Space Station (ISS) took a shot of the region last month from a mere 406 kilometres - or 1,332,020 feet - away.

The snap was taken just before 2 p.m. on Aug. 6 and clearly shows Sea Island, the Sturgeon Banks, YVR, along with most of Richmond’s other landmarks.

Ladner, Tsawwassen, the ferry terminal and Delta Port also feature prominently in the shot.

According to a NASA enthusiast on social media platform Reddit, the astronaut snapped a shot of Victoria – about three seconds later.

Both shots, along with thousands of others from around the planet, are uploaded onto a website, courtesy of the Earth Science and Remote Sensing Unit, NASA Johnson Space Center.

For the geeks among you, the spacecraft’s “nadir point” at the time of the Richmond/South Delta photo was 48.6° N, 121.3° W and was taken through a 400mm lens.
