The Port of Bellingham isn’t anticipating the U.S./Canada border to open anytime soon.
The government agency is now taking reservations for its temporary Point Roberts ferry until at least late November.
The complimentary foot passenger emergency service was launched back in August by to provide Point residents entry into the continental United States without having to come through Canada.
The two-hour trip takes passengers to the Bellingham Cruise Terminal in the Fairhaven District. The ferry will depart from Bellingham at 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Point Roberts departures are at 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Passengers have to secure spots on both legs of the trip on the Port of Bellingham website.
San Juan Cruises’ 100-foot vessel Salish Express is being utilized for the service with a capacity of 60.
The U.S./Canada border has been closed to non-essential travel since March and border restrictions have been extended through at least Oct. 21.
