Police arrest DSS teacher following sexual assault

Pair of charges recommended against 43-year-old man

Delta police have arrested a teacher in connection with an alleged sexual assault at Delta Secondary.

On Nov. 4, police responded to a call from the Ladner high school. Upon arrival, a young girl disclosed to investigators she had been sexually assaulted by an unknown adult male near the school gym.

The police department's sexual offence unit conducted a thorough investigation over the course of the weekend and on Nov. 6, arrested a 43-year-old man.

Police have recommended charges of sexual assault and sexual interference.

The suspect was transported to police headquarters where he was released on a promise to appear in court and an undertaking with conditions, including:

. No contact directly or indirectly with the victim or witnesses;

. No go to Delta Secondary;

. No contact with any female under the age of 16.

At this point police cannot release the name of the suspect until formal charges are approved by Crown counsel.
