BCCDC released its weekly numbers by community, showing Richmond cases dropping for the second week.

Richmond COVID-19 numbers dropped for the second week running after hitting a summer-high of 93 two weeks ago.

The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) reported this week there were 56 new cases in Richmond (Sept. 5-11), down from 68 last week.

Vaccination rates in Richmond, in the meantime, seem to be well above provincial averages with every neighbourhood reporting above the provincial average of 78.6 per cent double-vaccinated.

In Steveston, 86 per cent of residents aged 12 and older have received two doses and those living in the East/West Cambie-Bridgeport area have hit 84 per cent double-vaccination rates.

Richmond COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population also seem to be the lowest in the Lower Mainland, with the BCCDC reporting between one and five cases per 100,000. Meanwhile, this rate is between five and 10 per 100,000 population in most surrounding communities.

COVID-19 cases in Richmond had been climbing weekly from mid-July when there were only 13 new weekly cases.

Provincial numbers, however, continue to be around 600 or more per day as the province fights the fourth wave of the pandemic.

On Wednesday, provincial health authorities reported 661 new cases of COVID-19 across B.C. and there were 288 people in hospital and 137 in the ICU with the virus.
