Kindred Spirits have been busy spreading some holiday cheer and community good-will.

The Kindred Spirits of South Delta Secondary is a new extra-curricular club, which is an offshoot of the school's Interact Club.

Students Noah Klassen and Janaka Shahi are the club's co-presidents and also are a part of the Interact Club.

At the start of the current school year, Klassen felt a new club was needed in the school to specifically focus on seniors in the local community as the Interact Club works on many different charitable causes.

The Kindred Spirits Club fundraised in a socially-responsible way, adhering to COVID-19 school and community protocols, and raised enough money to make special care packages for the KinVillage seniors.

Andrea Dulay is the sponsor teacher for the Interact and Kindred Spirits Club.

She said she is extremely proud of both the Interact Club, which started a pen pal letter writing program with KinVillage earlier this year, and the Kindred Spirits group for showing care towards the local seniors by providing thoughtful Christmas gifts for KinVillage.

In addition, the Kindred Spirits Club started a special 'ZOOM' program, which entails having conversations with the seniors and playing online games.

“The South Delta Secondary students are showing a fantastic initiative towards the seniors in their community and expressing appreciation by finding creative ways to interact with valuable members of our community,” said Dulay.
