South Delta Crime Beat: Garage break-in nets thieves $10,000 in stolen goods

*Aug. 22, 5400 Block of 6th Avenue: A complainant reported they had left their bicycle unattended for 10 minutes and when they returned it had been stolen. The bike valued at $350 is a purple women’s Cypress hybrid.

*Aug. 22, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A complainant reported that while they were sleeping in their car with the windows down in a business’s parking lot their cell phone was stolen. Police attended and retrieved surveillance video from the business which revealed a male wearing a red shirt and black pants on a scooter reaching into the driver’s side of the vehicle and leaving the parking lot. Pictures of the suspect to be disseminated by police for possible identification.

*Aug. 22, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported that a female had selected numerous clothing items and concealed them in a child’s buggy and left the store without payment. Police attended and following examination of the surveillance video, located the woman who was arrested for theft under $5,000. The suspect admitted to the theft and paid $500 for the stolen items. The suspect was transferred to police headquarters, processed, and then released on a promise to appear in court at a future date.

*Aug. 23, 800 Block of Gale Place: A complainant reported a break and enter of their garage sometime overnight. No signs of forced entry. Items stolen include golf clubs, snowboards, and a laptop with a total value of approximately $10,000. Video surveillance revealed an older model black SUV as the suspect vehicle.

*Aug. 24, 1400 Block of 56th Street: A complainant reported a catalytic converter had been stolen sometime overnight from their vehicle parked in a locked, underground parkade. Police attended and found no signs of forced entry. No surveillance video as it was not working at the time.

*Aug. 24, 1200 Block of Hunter Road: A complainant reported they had received a call they thought was Telus offering a discount on their landline phone bill. Some personal information was provided to the caller. A few days later, a cell phone in Bell packaging was received. The complainant realized they were the victim of a possible fraud. The bank, Bell, Equifax, and TransUnion were all contacted by the complainant to prevent any potential loss. 

*Aug. 25, 6500 Block of 3rd Avenue: A complainant reported that, as a result of fraud, they suffered a loss of $5,000. The complainant clicked a link on their computer for what they thought was Microsoft security and transferred $5,000 for the purchase of Apple gift cards. When the complainant found they were the victim of fraud they contacted Apple, but the cards had already been emptied and they were unable to recover the lost funds.  Complainant reported the incident for information purposes.

*Aug. 26, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported that a male entered the store, concealed a $40 baseball cap in his backpack and left the store without payment. The suspect is described as an Asian male in his 20’s, 5’8” tall, medium build, wearing a black baseball cap, blue T-shirt, grey pants, and white runners.

*Aug. 26 1400 Block of 56th Street: A complainant reported the attempted theft of their catalytic converter from their vehicle parked in an underground parking lot. The exhaust pipe was cut from the vehicle, but the catalytic converter was still intact. Unknown how the suspect entered the underground parking area.

*Aug. 25, 3300 Block of 72nd Street: While a complainant’s vehicle was parked at the entrance to the trail at this location, their wallet was stolen from their vehicle. The theft was discovered when the complainant noticed several unknown transaction’s had been made on their bank card. Incident still under investigation with requests from businesses for transactions and surveillance video.

*Aug. 25, 5100 Block of Central Avenue: A complainant left their bicycle unlocked in their carport overnight and when they went to retrieve it in the morning it had been stolen.  Police were contacted and a matching bike was located at police headquarters. The bicycle had been seized earlier form a suspect who had an outstanding warrant and had been transferred to cells. The bike was confirmed as the stolen bicycle and returned to the owner at their residence.

*Aug. 26, 5500 Block of 48B Avenue: A complainant reported the theft of their vehicle parked on the street. The vehicle is a 1998 green Civic Honda bearing a BC license plate and contained $1,000 worth of tools. Description of the vehicle added to the Canadian Police Information Centre.

*Aug. 26, 7900 Block of Progress Way: A complainant reported the theft of a Kohler car  battery, a set of Snap-on wrenches, sockets and other tools in a red bag from the back lot of their workspace sometime during the day. Approximate value of stolen items is $5,200.  The complainant indicated several individuals including deliveries and carriers pass through the property during the day. Police to review surveillance video to possibly identify a suspect. 

*Aug. 27, Ladner Trunk Road & 62nd Street: During a routine traffic stop, police found a suspect whose driver’s license was cancelled and had a 90-day driving prohibition. The vehicle was impounded and the driver was released with a promise to appear in court at a future date.
