At the time it was dedicated on Sept. 25, 1891, St. Stephen's was only the third Presbyterian Church to be built in the Lower Mainland.

It became part of the United Church of Canada at the time of Church Union in 1925.

In Graves' sermon he pointed out that members of this small but vital congregation have been involved in the founding, building up and maintenance of most of the key institutions in the Ladner and East Delta, including the East Delta Hall, Deltassist and Delta Hospital.
