Third Age Learning at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (TALK) will be offering online courses for the 50-plus age group in Fall 2020.
TALK is a volunteer-run organization that has offered courses in partnership with KPU for more than 20 years. Created by former KPU faculty member Joanne Cunningham, the courses are a part of lifelong learning, ideal for retirees who want to continue learning. Course fees are kept low by inviting KPU professors and community professionals to volunteer their time.
TALK membership usually ranges up to 400 members. Due to the impact of COVID-19, TALK courses were cancelled for Spring 2020 but now those courses will be online via Zoom for the upcoming semester.
“We are delighted that almost all of our fall presenters and over 75 per cent of our members were willing to try this new way of taking courses,” says Robin Heath, TALK chair.
Heath says these courses give seniors a way to connect with each other in a learning environment.
“There are many seniors facing shut-in realities and having an opportunity to stay connected with their community and to continue participating in relevant online courses will have a positive impact on their lives.”
This fall, TALK’s course offerings will include the Dark Web, Freedom of the Press, Tax Considerations for Seniors, The Arches of Chinatown and much more. The full list of courses can be found here.
There will be two free Zoom webinar practice sessions on Sept. 15 and 16 to help participants learn to use the platform before delving into the courses.
Registration is open in early September, with the first class on Sept. 22.
