TFN joint venture wins provincial award

Three-year-old partnership with Matcon receives recognition at B.C. Aboriginal Business Awards

A joint venture between Tsawwassen First Nation and a construction company has garnered an award.

TFN Construction/ Matcon Civil Joint Venture, Tsawwassen was recognized earlier this month with the Joint Venture Business of the Year: Outstanding Achievement Award at the B.C. Aboriginal Business Awards.

Formed in the fall of 2008 by the Tsawwassen First Nation and Matcon Civil Constructors Inc., the joint venture specializes in infrastructure projects and land remediation in the TFN and surrounding area.

Nine Delta chartered accounting students recently passed the national Uniform Evaluation, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of B.C. (ICABC) and the CA School of Business announced this week.

Ramandeep Aujla (Auditor General of B.C.), Karalene Boyle (KPMG LLP), Matthew Czech (Smythe Ratcliffe), Brian Henderson (Grant Thornton LLP), Jean Jen (KPMG LLP), Jamey Johal (Ernst & Young LLP), Inderpreet Mand (James Stafford, CA), Benjamin Salter (PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP) and James Sanderson (PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP) were among 427 B.C. writers who successfully completed the exam, which was written over three days in September.

"On behalf of the institute's council, I would like to congratulate these students for successfully passing the UFE," said Lenard Boggio, president of the ICABC. "We welcome them to the ranks of chartered accountants."

Envision Financial employees throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, including Cyrus Mazdine from the Tsawwassen branch, combined to raise more than $5,500 for prostate cancer research last month during Movember.

Each November, men around the world grow moustaches to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer research.

For a second year, the men of Envision Financial joined the cause, far exceeding last year's total of $2,567.
