Delta’s vaccination rate remains high with the 12-to-17 year old age group leading the way in Fraser Health when it comes to getting the first two doses. However, like elsewhere, the number of people getting a third dose is much lower.

New cases of COVID-19 in Delta inched up slightly from last week.

According to the BCCDC community map, covering the period March 27 to April 2, Delta had 22 new confirmed cases.

Meanwhile in some of our neighbouring communities, Richmond had 46 cases and Surrey had 90.

As far as Delta’s vaccination rate, as of April 5, those in the 5-to-11 age range, who have had a first dose was 65 per cent, while it was 45 per cent for a second dose.

Those 12-to-17 who have had a first dose was 97 per cent, while it was 95 per cent for a second and 40 per cent for a booster shot.

Booster dose coverage among 12-to-17 year olds was 33 per cent across B.C., with a variation in vaccination coverage across communities.

The BCCDC notes that by March 28, 2022, provincial-level one-dose COVID-19 vaccination coverage among 5-to-11 year-olds and 12-to-17 year-olds was 56 per cent and 89 per cent respectively.

Two-dose coverage was 37 per cent and 85 per cent respectively.

When it comes to those ages 18-years-old and older in Delta who had a first dose, it stood at 97 per cent, while it was 95 per cent for a second and 63 per cent for a third.

The province this week unveiled its plan to roll out a second COVID-19 booster vaccine, or fourth shot.

These will first offered this spring to residents of long-term care, seniors 70 and older and Indigenous people 55 and older.

The BCCDC also shows the latest community map of overall COVID-19 cases, covering the period from the beginning of January 2020 to end of March 2022.

That map indicates Delta had 8,750 confirmed cases overall. That’s higher than Richmond, (8,134) but a far cry from Langley (11,704), Abbotsford (15,715) or Surrey (56,099).

The province this week transitioned from daily to weekly COVID-19 reporting.
