Throwback: New auto world pitched for Delta

The $5.4 million project would have created an estimated 210 full-time jobs

The proposal included two 15,000 and three 10,000-square-foot showrooms and service department buildings.

Let’s head back to November 1980 when a new multi-car dealership complex was pitched for Ladner.

The complex, which was to house five different dealerships, was propped alongside the existing Sunshine Chevrolet Oldsmobile on Highway 17 and 60th Ave.

Dan Grant of Interwest Property Services first laid out the proposed 99 Auto World development at a luncheon meeting of the Ladner Business Association.

The proposal involved two domestic and three import auto lines at the 10-acre site, which was in the Agricultural Land Reserve.

The proposal wasn’t well received by the city, doubtful the land could be taken out of the farm reserve and rezoned to light industrial.
