Students attending English Bluff Elementary got a little extra vacation time last week when the Tsawwassen school was forced to close Friday due to a watermain break.
Cathy Hussey, who's the new principal at English Bluff, said a municipal watermain broke around 8 a.m., prompting repair crews to shut off the water supply to the school until the line was fixed.
The watermain was not near the school and there was no damage to the facility.
The school tried to get the word out but some parents began arriving with their children only to be told classes were cancelled.
Hussey said the parents were understanding and the morning went smoothly.
Classes resumed Monday morning.
Hussey joked the students "looked very sad" when told they had a long weekend.
