It was an exciting all-South Delta Rams match-up that went down to the wire to highlight last week’s play in the Vancouver Mainland Football League.

The Greens held on for an exciting 13-6 win over the Golds at Dennison Park in Tsawwassen.

Early on, both defences dominated with Brady Robertson and Jack Sever preventing the Greens from gaining any yards.

On the other side, Liam Kirincic and Jacob Christian shutdown the Gold team.

In the second quarter, both offences began gaining momentum with Gold quarterback Dashton Kingston throwing a beautiful pass to Evan Chatha, resulting in a gain of 40 yards, to move the Gold team deep into Green territory. An interception by Owen Gillespie halted the drive and kept the game scoreless.

The Greens broke the deadlock on a 70-yard touchdown run by Thomas Cooper, set up by excellent blocking from Cooper Greaves, Thomas McVeigh and Liam Kirincic.

Late in the second quarter, Kieran Gray produced back-to-back quarterback sacks, which gave the Greens excellent field position, and they were able to capitalize. Quarterback Claire Gillan's 35-yard run set up great field position allowing her to finish off the drive with a sneak TD just before the halftime whistle.

The second half was again led by both defences not allowing much yardage.

Alec McDonald joined Brady and Jack in again leading the Gold defence to prevent the Greens from extending their lead.

The Gold team's offence gained momentum late in the half with big passing plays from Dashton to Evan and Kooper Purbs. That opened up running lanes for Alec and Armahn Simms but the trio of Liam, Jacob and Jackson Kringhaug did not allow the Golds to turn their yards into points.

Later in the fourth quarter their persistence paid off with Purbs scoring on a 40-yard touchdown run to wrap-up an exciting match-up.
