The Delta Islanders saw their postseason run come to an end after an 11-7 loss to the New Westminster Salmonbellies Wednesday at Ladner Arena.

New Westminster took the B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League semi-final series three games to one.

Delta jumped out to a 2-0 lead close to midway through the first period with goals seven seconds apart from Mike Mallory and Steve Higgs but couldn't hold onto the lead. The Salmonbellies stormed back with five straight goals to end the frame.

Ryan Keith scored twice for Delta while Logan Schuss, Eli McLaughlin and Michael Berekoff added singles.

Daniel McQuade had a big night for the Salmonbellies with two goals and five assists while Keegan Bal had a goal to go along with four helpers. New Westminster's Brandon Goodwin and Tyler Digby both had hat tricks.

Delta outshot New Westminster 55-43.

The Islanders had pushed the series to Game 4 with a dramatic 11-10 win on Tuesday, with the winning goal coming with only two seconds left in the third.

PIONEERS MISS OUT ON SWEEP

The Ladner Pioneers dropped a 9-6 decision to the Nanaimo Timbermen Wednesday at the South Delta Recreation Centre, missing out on a chance to sweep the semi-final playoff series.

The Pioneers still lead the West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association series 2-1.

Ladner coach Bob Taylor said his team seemed tired and took some undisciplined calls on Wednesday. The teams had played the previous night in Nanaimo, a game the Pioneers won 9-5.

The loss snapped a 15-game winning streak for Ladner.

"I think the guys [will be] OK once they get back on it. They were riding a pretty good high," said Taylor.

The Pioneers will look to close out the series Tuesday at Frank Crane Arena in Nanaimo.
