Blueblacks bring home medals from provincial championships

Boundary Bluebacks capped the 2011 season with some outstanding performances at last month's B.C. Summer Swimming Association's provincial championships at Watermania in Richmond.

Leading the Tsawwassen contingent was Division Six competitor Talon Slade who captured gold in the 100 metre freestyle with a winning time of 56.10 seconds. He would later add a bronze in the 100 backstroke with a clocking of 1: 02.82.

Slade's busy weekend also included being a member of the gold medal winning Fraser South Regional relay team in the 200 freestyle event. He came everso-close to adding more medals, placing fourth in the 50 butterfly (27.92) and fifth in the 50 free (25.58).

In Division 6 girls, Erin MacDougall was a member of the silver medal winning South Fraser medley relay team. She also placed in the top 10 in three individual events, finishing fifth in the 100 free (1: 04.60), sixth in the 100 backstroke (1: 14.40) and ninth in the 50 free (29.15).

Morgan Slade finished 10th in the Division 5 boys 100 backstroke with a time of 1: 12.22, while Lindsay Nicholson was 12th in the Division 3 girls 50 breaststroke (42.33).

Longtime Delta resident and former Bluebacks member Sarah Munro enjoyed a three medal weekend, winning gold in the Division 7 girls 50 butterfly (31.59). She was also a member of the gold medal winning regional relay team and added a bronze in the 100 butterfly (1: 13).

Winskill Dolphins member Melissa Kwantes was fifth in the OCAT2 100 breaststroke with a clocking of 1: 22.94.
