Tsawwassen First Nation member and lacrosse coach Nathan Wilson was a special guest at practice on Thursday night as the community field lacrosse club paid tribute to National Day For Truth and Reconciliation.

The Delta Footmen Field Lacrosse Club honoured National Day For Truth and Reconciliation by inviting a popular coach to speak at Thursday night’s practice session at Holly Park.

Nathan Wilson is not only a member of the Tsawwassen First Nation, but Indigenous Cultural Enhancement Facilitator with the Delta School District.

He was honoured for his outstanding work with students as co-recipient of Tsawwassen Rotary’s annual Community Peace Builder Award, which was presented on Sept. 21.

On Thursday night, Wilson talked to Footmen U15, U13 and U18 teams and parents about the devastating impact of Residential Schools and how sacred lacrosse, known as the ‘Creator’s Game’ is to the First Nations community.

The Footmen teams are back in action this weekend as the Pacific Coast Field Lacrosse League continues.
