Devils look to rebound with win over Boyd

SDSS using loss to No. 2 Mission as valuable learning experience

The South Delta Sun Devils football team is looking to bounce back from a tough game against the province's second ranked "AA" squad last weekend.

The visiting Mission Roadrunners came away with a 33-6 win in Tsawwassen.

"Right now we're still working on fine-tuning.

We're a young team - still learning the intricacies of our offence and our defence," said South Delta head coach Ray Moon.

"We were holding them until the last five minutes of the first half, then we started to give them a bit more than we had bargained for," said Moon, noting he was pleased with how his defence was playing in the early stages of the game.

Penalties also worked against the Sun Devils as Moon said the offence was flagged about a dozen times.

"The kids knew there were mental mistakes made. They're getting pumped about cleaning that up and preparing for Hugh Boyd," he said, noting his players have told him they want to make amends for the game against Mission.

The Hugh Boyd Trojans visit South Delta this weekend.

Moon said he thinks controlling the line of scrimmage will be the key to the tilt against the Richmond squad.

"We're going to come at them hard."

The team's intensity has increased in practice this week, Moon said, adding his group looks hungrier.

"They want to come out and do a good job because they know we're going to start league play in two games," he said. "Everybody in our conference has won a provincial title at least once in the last 10 years. It's a really hard conference. We want to make sure we're catching our stride once we get to league play."

The Sun Devils face the Hugh Boyd Trojans Saturday at 1: 30 p.m. at South Delta. Moon said the game will be shown on Delta Cable.
