Former South Delta Sun Devil standout Grant McDonald's all-star season at the University of Calgary got the attention of the CFL Scouting Bureau.

Tsawwassen’s Grant McDonald has been recognized as one of the top prospects for the 2021 CFL Draft.

The University of Calgary Dinos linebacker is listed 19th in the CFL Scouting Bureau Fall Rankings that were released on Thursday.

McDonald is coming off a Canada West All-Star season in helping the Dinos capture the Vanier Cup national championship. He led the team in tackles with 65 and also added 4.5 quarterback sacks and an interception.

He took his career to Calgary where he was re-united with his older brother Jack after spending a season down south at the University of Maine. His younger brother Ben has continued the family tradition by also signing with the Dinos at quarterback. The 2020 campaign, however, was postponed due to COVID-19.

McDonald was a three-year starter for the South Delta Sun Devils where he was a force at linebacker and running back. He teamed with Jack to help to school win its first ever provincial AAA championship back in 2014 when he aged up as a Grade 10. He scored a pair of touchdowns in the title game against Mt. Doug.

McDonald is one of just five U Sport players in the top 20 rankings, joining Calgary teammates Logan Bandy (12th) and Deane Leonard (13th), along with Montreal’s Pier-Olivier Lestage (11th) and Saskatchewan’s Nelson Lokombo (14th), a native of Abbotsford.
