Curious about curling? Watched on TV and thought, that looks easy! Well now is your opportunity to try it out for real.
The Delta Thistle Curling Club, located at North Delta Community Centre, is opening its doors Sept. 17 to 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. to one and all who would like to learn more about the sport of curling and get in some real-world ice time with friends and family. Everything you need will be provided (brooms, grippers and sliders) we only ask that you have a clean pair of running shoes and some warm clothes.
Experienced coaches and volunteers will be on hand to lead you through the basics of curling from delivery to sweeping and strategy. Curling is for the young and not so young, club members range from four to 94.
Club leagues range from learn-to-curl programs to competitive evening men’s, women’s and mixed events. Junior programs run twice a week and there is a very popular and fast-growing Stick Curling league (We call it Sturling). Additionally, seniors have several leagues that play during the day on Tuesday and Thursday.
Curling is a very social sport, both on and off the ice.
The Thirsty Thistle Lounge is where the fun continues after the game ends. Our fully licensed lounge offers a fun and relaxing atmosphere for you to enjoy with your fellow curlers. The lounge will be open during the Open House and is also available throughout the season for private rentals.
The Delta Thistle Curling Club is also home to the Special Olympics curling program as well as our wheelchair league. This year Delta Thistle will host the Provincial Wheelchair Playdowns Feb. 22 and 23. We welcome the community to come out and cheer on the curlers.
