Ice Hawks edge Pilots to up season record to 2-1

The Delta Ice Hawks improved to 2-1 in the early going of their Pacific International Junior Hockey League campaign by knocking off the Abbotsford Pilots 3-1 on Tuesday.

Spencer Traher scored the game-winning goal early in the third while Alex Martin added an empty netter at the Ladner Leisure Centre. John Proctor opened the scoring 20 seconds into the first period for the Ice Hawks.

Luke Venema had the lone marker for Abbotsford. Pilots netminder Riley Parker made 28 saves.

Delta's Doug Birks stopped 19 shots for the win.

Both teams couldn't cash in on power plays Tuesday (Delta 0-4, Abbotsford 0-5).

The Ice Hawks visited the Mission Icebreakers on Thursday night past the Optimist's press deadline. Delta travels to North Vancouver Saturday before playing the North Delta Devils Tuesday at the Ladner Leisure Centre at 7: 30 p.m.
