Delta Thistle Curling Club is offering a one-on-one introductory 55-minute lesson for just $10.

Delta Thistle is one of just a handful of curling clubs still open amid the COVID-19 pandemic and now it’s providing a terrific deal to learn one of Canada’s favourite winter pastimes.

Through Curl BC, an introductory lesson is being offered that features 55 minutes of one-on-one instruction for just $10.

COVID safety measures are in place including masks required, a signed health declaration, limited access to the lobby area and cleaning all rock handles at the end of the session.

Ice times are available until the third week of March and can be reserved by visiting Curl BC’s start curling web page

The North Delta club along with Langley and Golden Ears are the lone Metro Vancouver clubs that have remained open and are offering the program.

“The three of us managers got together and came up with this idea,” explained Delta Thistle general manager Patrick Prade. “Usually there would be four to six people for these kinds of lessons. There is one curler at each end of the sheet and you are being taught at the same time.

“It’s a sport that has proven to be done safely (amid a pandemic). We have been open the whole way through with no incidents.”

Delta Thistle’s adult leagues were shut down back in November and it has been only practice and training sessions since. Among them is hired junior age instructors leading a youth development program through a $14,000 provincial grant given to the club.
