Point Roberts native Lukas Svejkovsky will be concluding his junior hockey career back in his home state after being acquired by the Seattle Thunderbirds on Monday from the Medicine Hat Tigers.

It’s a homecoming of sorts for Lukas Svejkovsky.

The 20-year-old forward from Point Roberts will be concluding his junior hockey career about two hours south of his hometown after being traded by the Medicine Hat Tigers to the Seattle Thunderbirds on Monday for a trio of Western Hockey League draft picks.

Svejkovsky posted 30 points (13G-17A) with Medicine Hat this season, and was leading the Tigers in scoring through the first half of the 2021/22 campaign.

“We’d like to thank Lukas and his family for his time here in Medicine Hat. He is a skilled, dynamic player that played hard every night. We wish him all the best moving forward with Seattle and beyond,” said Tigers general manager and head coach Willie Desjardins.

Svejkovsky was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Delta Hockey Academy product spent two seasons with the Vancouver Giants where he produced 14 goals and 36 points in 85 games before being dealt to Medicine Hat midway through the 2019/20 campaign.

He produced 28 points, including 13 goals then added 22 more points in 20 games during the COVID-19 shortened 2020-21 season. He was invited to the Team USA final selection camp for the 2021 U20 World Championships.

The Thunderbirds currently sit sixth overall in the WHL’s Western Conference with a 10-12-0-1 record.

The Tigers received a first-round selection in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft as well as conditional picks in 2023 (second round) and 2025 (third round).
