Seaquam grads top prospects for 2022 CFL Draft

Sons of former B.C. Lions standout running back are making an impression on CFL scouts

Seaquam graduate and University of Calgary star receiver Tyson Philpot is ranked seventh in the CFL Scouting Bureau rankings for the 2022 draft. His twin brother Jalen is No. 14.

The Delta football talent pipeline to the powerhouse program at the University of Calgary has produced two more prospects for the 2022 CFL Draft.

Twin brothers and Seaquam Secondary graduates Jalen and Tyson Philpot are included in the initial CFL Scouting Bureau rankings.

The standout receivers helped the Dinos capture the 2019 Vanier Cup national championship and are poised to have big 2021 campaigns as the Canada West season resumes this month following a year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jalen is ranked No. 7 after compiling a team-leading 72 catches and 1,123 yards, along with seven touchdowns in 2019, earning conference all-star honours. Tyson has earned the No. 15 ranking. He had 18 receptions for 321 yards a pair of majors.

The boys’ father is former BC Lions’ standout running back Cory Philpot who helped the Leos win the 1994 Grey Cup.

The Dinos roster also features South Delta graduates Jacob Kirk, Ben McDonald, Evan Paterson, Ethan Troniak and Evan Davies.

Two more Dino alumni and SDSS grads, linebackers Grant McDonald and Charlie Moore, were selected in the 2021 CFL Draft by the Edmonton Elks and Calgary Stampeders respectively. Both went on to earn roster spots.
