The Vancouver Giants concluded their main training camp in Ladner Monday with the annual Legends Cup game.

Ottawa Senators’ prospect Zack Ostapchuk scored four times as Team Quinn trimmed Team Howe 8-7 on Monday to capture the Legends Cup and close out the Vancouver Giants’ 2021 Chevrolet Training Camp at the Ladner Leisure Centre.

The 18-year-old Alberta native, who was selected 39th overall by Ottawa in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, completed his big outing with what proved to be the game winner at the 13:16 mark of the third period.

Team Howe made things interesting with a pair of goals to close out the scoring and enjoyed a huge 50-27 advantage in the shot department.

Kyle Bochek added four assists for Team Quinn while Tanner Brown led Team Howe with two goals and an assist.

Ladner’s Braedy Eureby turned aside 18 of the 20 shots he faced before making way for Colin Reay midway through the game.

There was more local flavour on the score sheet as Matthew Stuart was among the Team Howe scorers.

It was Team Quinn’s first Legends Cup win since 2017. Donations were collected at the door for the CKNW Kids’ Fund.

The Giants will reduce their roster in the days ahead and get set for their Western Hockey League pre-season schedule that includes the Kelowna Rockets visiting Ladner on Sept. 15 and the Kamloops Blazers in town a week later, Sept. 22. Both games start at 7 p.m.

Vancouver will open its regular season schedule Oct. 2 in Victoria before entertaining Prince George in its home opener on Oct. 8 at the Langley Events Centre.
