South Delta Atom Storm capped a remarkable performance by capturing their division title at the Surrey Female Hockey Association's Super Heart Tournament, held Feb. 3-5.

The team rolled to four victories in five games and outscored their opponents 24-8 in the process. The impressive run was capped by a gutsy performance by the girls at both ends of the rink

In the opening game of the tournament, South Delta rolled to a convincing 9-0 win over Abbotsford. In the second game against Langley, the girls showed amazing teamwork and made it difficult for their opponents to generate offence.

Goalie Frecheska Yep played exceptionally well in her team's 8-1 victory. Camryn Harris paced the attack with a hat trick.

The third game against South Delta's arch rival Surrey Falcons proved to be a nail-biter. Inspite of a tremendous effort, the Storm dropped a 5-2 decision. This did not dishearten them, and the girls came back to take on Nanaimo in a sudden-death game.

Again exceptional play facilitated a win by a 3-1 margin and sent the locals to the championship game. The best plus/minus goals rule broke a three-way tie between South Delta, Surrey, and Nanaimo, knocking Surrey out of the competition.

South Delta met Nanaimo once again in the final in a thrilling game of hard skating and clean play.

Macy Young scored the first goal, with an assist from Amrita Bains in the second period, which was answered shortly by Nanaimo.

The game was tied 1-1 until Bains notched the game winner in an exciting 2-1 victory.

The standout players included scoring hotshots Madeline Davies, Charlotte Lee, Ashley Morrow, Meaghan Dillon, Nava Hothi, Julia Farkasch and Harris. Strong defensive play was showcased by Jade Ridgewell, Natalee Okamura, Sophie Cofouros, Jade Yarhi, Beatrice Ford, Elise Ridley, Olivia Wickett, and Tamara Ash.

Another strong team member is Emma Stradiotti, who was unable to attend the tournament.

The cohesive team is guided by head coach Jeff Morrow and assistants Scott Ridgewell, Brent Lee, and Wayne Okamura. The team manager is Virginia Davies, while Augusto Yep and Glen Young are the Health and Safety Persons.

Arjun Bains is the on ice helper.

The tournament win follows the Storm's first place showing at the North Shore Winter Club's Thanksgiving Tournament.
