The senior varsity Sun Devils erased a 14-point deficit to come back to defeat Belmont 31-21 on the road last Friday to move to 2-1 in conference play.
Belmont had tonnes of energy to start the game and an early error by South Delta only fueled that fire.
Less than five plays into the game Belmont scooped up a lateral and ran it back for the score.
South Delta was able to take the next drive 80 yards and a beautiful throw by Dominic Dumas to Quin SJoberg had the game tied 7-7.
Some penalties stalled out a few South Delta drives and after a missed field goal, Belmont marched the field for a 25-yard score for a 14-7 lead at the half.
Belmont started the second half with a huge kick-off return for a touchdown to increase their lead to 21-7.
South Delta was able to respond to this by shutting out the Bulldogs for the remainder of the game.
The Sun Devils offence started to get going with an eight-play 80-yard TD drive that was capped by a Koen Hubbard seven-yard catch.
A short offensive series had Belmont punting to SD and one play later, Damian Dumas had his longest run of the game, going 58-yards for a TD, tying the score at 21-21.
The Dumas brothers teamed up for the next TD as Dominic hit Damian for a short five-yard score.
Diego Altorre finished out the scoring with a 40-yard field goal.
Damian finished with 210 yards on the ground and two catches for 33 yards.
Quinn Sjoberg had 61 yards receiving and a TD, Koen Hubbard also had 26 yards and TD.
Dominic finished with 120 yards passing, three TDs and one interception.
The defence was led by middle linebacker Gage Spargo with seven tackles, Tommy Cowan chipped in with six tackles, Jun Choi and both Dumas’s had five tackles apiece.
The Sun Devils are back at home on Oct. 19 against Carson Graham at 1:30 p.m. at Dennison Field.

The JV Sun Devils also came from behind last week to beat Holy Cross 14-6.
The win moved South Delta to 1-1 in conference play with two conference games remaining.
The Sun Devils controlled the flow of the game but couldn’t put points on the board.
Three TDs were nullified by penalties.
Quinn Kirincic was able to open the scoring on a designed QB run from the two.
A penalty on the extra point moved the ball up and the Sun Devils were able to get the two-point convert.
Holy Cross scored on a 40-yard run up the middle, but a failed two-point attempt had the score at 8-6.
With not much time left in the half, South Delta was able to move the ball, and it was a 35-yard Kirincic TD strike to Bowen Robertson that had the home team up 14-6.
South Delta’s defence really locked it up in the second half and although the offence moved the ball were not able to punch it in again.
South Delta plays Seaquam Wednesday night at John Oliver in a must-win game. Kick-off is 7 p.m.
