Fresh off a strong showing in Victoria, a group of athletes from Tsawwassen Martial Arts (TMA) hit the international stage in Florida earlier this month for the World Union Karate-Do Federation’s (WUFK) 10th World Karate Championships.
The event, held in Fort Lauderdale, attracted more than 56 teams representing numerous countries including Romania, England, Mexico, Scotland, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Ireland, Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal, Germany, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, Mexico, Peru, Egypt, Pakistan, India, Libya, Uzbekistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, Scotland, Brazil, Kuwait, Croatia, Algeria and the United States.
The TMA contingent more than held its own, producing three world champions, two silver medals and a bronze. That left Tsawwassen a very respectable 15th overall in the final team standings.
More importantly, it was a trip of a lifetime that produced unforgettable memories.
