U13 Delta Coastal Selects United (DCS) boys soccer team will continue its outstanding season in Saturday’s championship game at the Coastal “A” Cup finals in Ridge Meadows.

The Selects, featuring 2009-born talent from the North Delta and South Delta soccer clubs, have not lost a game since late September.

Along the way, they captured first place in their league with a 15-1-1 record and won tournaments in Richmond and Surrey.

A 2-1 semi-final cup win over district rival Coastal F.C. two weekends ago realized another goal of reaching the title game, set back when the team was formed 13 months ago.

Delta will take on the Vancouver F.C. Ultras in the cup final.

“It's been a long process, week in and week out, to implement consistent efforts, but the boys have done so in exceptional fashion,” said United head coach T.J. Sugars whose roster features his twin boys Hudson and Cruz Sugars. “We focus a lot on the mental side of the game on top of the technical side of playing the game.

"Unlike the team we face in the final from the west division, we are a team comprised and developed from the Delta regional clubs. Only two players out of the 17 didn't start from either North Delta or South Delta area. As a coach of most of these guys for many years, I'm incredibly proud of their achievements this season.”

United’s roster also features: Jon Rodriguez, Najim Saify, Mani Virk, Isaak Funk, Ethan Caldecott, Kessler Curtis, Luca Kapijimpanga, Ben Lindale, Brody Frampton, Calum Moennick, Aiden Ayre, Levi Neufeld, Ryan McKibbin, Raunak Chehil and 2010 born goalkeeper Gavin Wagstaff.

Regardless of Saturday’s result, DCS United is headed to the Provincial “A”Cup Championships, June 30 to July 3 at South Surrey Athletic Park.
