Delta independent council candidate Craig DeCraene wants to represent change on city council.

“I decided to run for city council because, to see change, sometimes you have to be the change. I believe that we can do better to protect the environment, and that the municipal level of government has a real role to play in that regard. From expanded recycling programs to having less congestion on the roads,” said DeCraene, a 39-year-old North Delta resident.

“Public safety is big for me too. In many areas in Delta I believe that. Upgraded crosswalks and better lighting in the streets are needed. I personally had a first-hand experiences within dimly lit streets and an uncontrolled crosswalk near my home.”

DeCraene also says that after reviewing the community plans, he supports establishing more medium-density zones

“I would support the notion of more high dense zones along corridors that can accommodate the extra traffic,” he said.

He adds, “Previous council voted against marijuana dispensaries, but I’d like to go the other way and take a serious look at allowing dispensaries in Delta. More public consultation on this topic would be a good idea.”

The election will take place Oct. 20.
