The New Westminster & District Labour Council this week released their list of endorsed candidates for the upcoming municipal election.

“The Labour Council has endorsed 98 candidates running for the positions of mayor, city councillor and school board trustee in 12 municipalities in our region,” said Janet Andrews, secretary treasurer of the NWDLC in a news release.

Endorsed candidates have a range of skills, backgrounds and ages, and for the first time more than half those endorsed are women, the NWDLC states, adding the diversity of candidates ensures the elected bodies are reflective of the people they represent.

The council is a community-based labour body chartered by the Canadain Labour Congress.

Those endorsed for the Oct. 20 election in Delta include mayoralty candidate Sylvia Bishop, council candidates Mike Smith, Lori Mayhew and Simran Walia, and school board candidates Val Windsor, Rhiannon Bennett, Bruce Reid, Randy Anderson-Fennell, Andrea Hilder, Victor Espinoza and Mita Naidu.
