Director Kevin Smith had a rubbish start to his day in Vancouver

This massive garbage pile is not what you want to see when you open your hotel curtains

Waking up in Vancouver can be a beautiful thing, if you’ve got the right view. Sadly director Kevin Smith came to town and woke up to the sight of a massive garbage pile outside his hotel window.

Smith, who is staying at the posh Sutton Place Hotel, took to Twitter to share an image of what he saw: “Good morning, Vancouver. This was my view when I opened my curtains at the Sutton Place Hotel.”

“Thinking of suggesting it as a location for my Supergirl ep, since there’s an art-directed quality to the garbage. Might try to find an old box of Mr. Sparkle in this trash heap…”

Smith is a frequent visitor to Vancouver for work, and made headlines earlier this year for his pledge to help the city save the Rio Theatre. He suffered a heart attack in February, but still made good on his commitment to his sold-out events at the (now-saved!) venue.

No one should be waking up in beautiful Vancouver with all that garbage outside their window, though, that’s for sure. Smith tagged the hotel on Twitter, but the hotel’s account hasn’t been active since late August.

We’ve also reached out to the hotel for comment, and will update if they provide a response.

In the meantime, we all hope Smith’s stay (and view) get a lot better.
