Kay Khilvinder Hale is running as an independent candidate in the municipal election.

“As an independent candidate, I do not have the financial resources available for a lavish advertising campaign,” Hale said in a news release. “I chose not to take any donations from business or big developers. I want to serve the community from the council and not from the pockets of some big businesses.”

Hale is Hong Kong born with a diverse family background. Her husband was born in Montreal and is a retired mechanical engineer. They relocated back to Canada in 1989 from Hong Kong. She grew up in a family speaking five different languages English, Cantonese, Punjabi, Hindi, and Elem Mandarin.

She completed her MBA in London, England and has had a 30-plus year career as a business management consultant working in Asia, Europe and North America.

“My multinational background gives me an insight in to diversity and values that are a reflection of our communities across Canada,” she said. “In Delta we have three communities, North Delta, Ladner and Tsawwassen. Each is quite different and there is a ‘psychological separation’ that requires a good line of communication. It is more important now than ever before that we build a community connection across all our diverse demographic.I firmly believe planning is the nuts and bolts of the work at City Hall. I know how to read and understand the implications of development plans.

“I see the importance, as a city councillor, listen, to keep an open mind on wide range of issues while serving the community with balance and common sense.”

She said with her multilingual ability, she will be able to strengthen the community as a whole, leveraging the cultural difference and the professional experience she has to bring a new perspective to the table.

“The decisions a city councillor makes can have a profound impact on the lives and livelihood of thousands of people,” she said. “We need people with humility, confidence, drive, determination and compassion to be of service and make a difference in our community. We need to challenge the status quo in a way that is innovative, involving a collaborative approach to produce outcomes that will benefit us all as a whole.”
