Delta mayoralty candidate Alex Megalos will be busy door knocking and introducing himself over the next weeks.

Growing up in Delta, Megalos says the three communities of Delta really do combine for one strong voice.

The range of issues he wants to talk about include port expansion, a new crossing over the Fraser to the planned casino, which he believes should be put on hold in light of illicit gambling and money laundering concerns.

“If people have not heard, the federal government is putting a task force together to tackle that specific problem. If you think we will not have the same problem then someone is really lying to you. That kind of problem does not go away. It just changes how it works. At this moment Delta is not part of any investigation because we do not have a casino, so why should Delta be part of one in the future. We should take a step back for two years and put any plans for a casino on hold,” says Megalos.

Other issues he wants to discuss include the legalization of marijuana to property taxes.

“Those who are running to be your next mayor are applying for a job…You must ask the hard questions and make sure you get the answers,” he adds.

Megalos, a Ladner resident, says he’ll be busy going to as many doors as possible in all three Delta communities. He’ll also be going green by not investing in pamphlets and signs.

The election takes place Oct. 20.
