Vytas Vaitkus, a 20-year resident of Tsawwassen, wants to be the city’s next mayor.

He says that while he’s not a career politician, he brings more than 25 years of other valuable experience to the role including expertise in capital program management, engineering, operations, business development, marketing, administration, process engineering and re-engineering and cross functional team leadership.

As well, Vaitkus has been actively involved in the community through education, volunteering, employment and events such as the Terry Fox Run, Delta Triathlons, SDU Soccer Club, South Delta Artist Guild and Sunfest car shows.

“I am a passionate Deltonian and I want to give other Deltonians a leadership option on October 20,” says Vaitkus.

Vaitkus says he has developed a comprehensive Delta-First platform for the entire city, not just for Tsawwassen, Ladner or North Delta. It focuses on putting an end to having a “have-not” community, on actively working to develop synergies and removing roadblocks to advance meaningful projects and encouraging the development of athletic, education and entertainment facilities for all ages.

The City of Delta has work to do, he says. Ten years ago, Delta was a safer and more engaged, proud community, Vaitkus says, noting he wants that back.

“I know what a great city looks like and I also know what today’s opportunities look like,” he notes. “It would be fantastic to layer current possibility over top of the culture, feel and spirit of the past. You can’t have a better tomorrow unless you respect the past and acknowledge the present.”

Vaitkus says he will use the U-ACE methodology to bridge those ideals: Understanding leads to Appreciation which leads to Cooperation and Execution. U-ACE also offers a means to provide transparency into the political processes and decision-making criteria, and a way of anticipating demand/issues before they happen.
