Alex Belzile scores lone goal in shootout as Laval Rocket edge Toronto Marlies, 5-4

MONTREAL — Alex Belzile scored the lone goal in a shootout to give the Laval Rocket a 5-4 victory over the Toronto Marlies Sunday night at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

As the shootout reached the third round, Belzile beat Marlies goalie Angus Redmond before his goaltender Michael McNiven stopped Marlies forward Nic Petan to ensure Laval would go home victorious. 

Yannick Veilleux scored twice while Ryan Poehling and Jan Mysak each scored a goal for the Rocket (7-4-1).

McNiven allowed four goals on 24 shots but remains undefeated in two starts for the Montreal Canadiens minor-league affiliate. 

Alexander Barabanov and Mac Hollowell each scored a goal and an assist for the Marlies (7-6-1). Petan and Joey Anderson also scored while former Canadiens forward Alex Galchenyuk added two assists for Toronto.

Andrew D'Agostini started between the pipes for Toronto, but he was pulled after allowing two goals on 10 shots. Redmond, in relief, made 13 saves.
