Pure Sunfarms says it's focused on expanding its high-quality dried flower product across Canada and continues to advance supply discussions with additional provincial distributors.

A large-scale Delta cannabis producer says its product already has a big share of the Ontario market in just its second month.

Emerald Health has a joint venture with the Village Farms greenhouse in East Ladner, called Pure Sunfarms, which is now supplying eight different strains of cannabis to Ontario and BC-run cannabis outlets.

Pre Sunfarms this week announced it is already the top-selling brand, by kilograms sold and dollar sales, at the Ontario Cannabis Store, Ontario’s only online retailer and wholesaler of legal recreational cannabis.

“This represents a 16 per cent market share for the brand by kilograms sold in October 2019. Pure Sunfarms’ dried flower products outsold the second ranked brand’s products two to one by kilograms sold, with three of the seven best-selling strains in the province including cultivars such as White Rhino, Island Honey and the top-selling Afghan Kush,” a news release states.

“In B.C., Pure Sunfarms sold out its first order to the BC Liquor Distribution Branch (BCLDB) in under three weeks to quickly rank among the top ten brands by sales for all product categories combined in the province last month.”

Pure Sunfarms this week also released its latest financials for the last quarter, noting it recorded a net loss of $2.4 million.

Meanwhile, another large-scale greenhouse operation that has a partnership with a cannabis producer announced it has begun selling organic lip balm.

AgraFlora Organics International, which a partnership with the Houweling Nurseries, also in East Ladner, this week said it has received a first purchase order from Gateway Newstands for its Whole Hemp Health organic lip balm.

However, it’s not all good news when it comes to Delta greenhouses connected to the cannabis industry.

Ontario-based Canopy Growth, which also has a massive greenhouse in East Ladner, saw another big revenue decline in the latest quarter, prompting CEO Mark Zekulin to call on the Ontario government to open more retail stores across the province.

A letter to the Premier Ford from the Cannabis Council of Canada urges that province to allow more stores.

In B.C., there’s only about 80 private and seven government-run cannabis stores, none in Delta. B.C. also has the lowest sales of legal cannabis in the country, according to Statistics Canada.
