BREAKING: Semi-truck accidents snarl traffic on River Road

Motorists are being advised to avoid River Road and the Tilbury Industrial Park area as Delta police deal with three significant accidents in the area.

Motorists are being advised to avoid River Road and the Tilbury Industrial Park area as Delta police deal with three significant accidents in the area.

According to the Delta police traffic unit all three of the semi-truck accidents are unrelated, and drivers should expect traffic back-ups and delays for the next several hours.

The traffic unit tweeted out around 11:45 a.m. that the westbound lanes of River Road were closed after the first accident on River Road near 96th Street.

“Due to the very slippery diesel, environmental clean-up time, and heavy tows required this will be a long westbound River Road closure,” said DPD Traffic Unit. “If coming into Tilbury please re-route to Highway 17 and come in via 80th.”

About 15 minutes later, the traffic unit tweeted about another accident, this one involving a semi-truck that lost its load at the intersection of Highway 17 and 80th St.

A third incident happened just after 1:30 p.m. when a truck lost a heavy roll of steel at Highway 17 and 80th St.

“Better here than on your car or pedestrian I guess,” tweeted out the DPD traffic unit. “Waiting for crane and more heavy tows.”
