Delta businesses up for Ovation Awards

Kemp Construction Management Ltd., Sarah Gallop Design Inc. and Alair Homes Delta receive nominations

Several Delta builders and designers are up for 2019 Homebuilders Association Vancouver (HAVAN) Ovation Awards.

Alair Homes Delta scooped up four finalist nominations – best kitchen and greatroom renovation, best bathroom renovation: $35,000 and over, best renovation: $200,000-$399,000 and the coveted residential renovator of the year nomination.

Tsawwassen’s Sarah Gallop Design Inc. (SGDI) is up for best custom home: under $1 million with Tsawwassen’s Kemp Construction Management Ltd., while SGDI has also been recognized as a finalist in three other categories including best renovation: under $200,000, best custom home: under $1 million and best new kitchen: $100,000 and over.

“It’s very exciting. Personally, this is my 30th year in the construction industry and all different aspects from being a carpenter to working for a large commercial contractor to owning my own company now,” said Peter Nielsen, owner/director of Alair Homes Delta. “We have been in business for a little over three years and this is the first time we submitted for the awards. We submitted for six, so to be nominated for four awards is just amazing. My team has done a phenomenal job. For us this puts a stamp on what we do.”

Celebrating the 10th season of awards, almost 400 entries were submitted this year-- a record for the Ovation Awards -- which created fierce competition across 48 categories.

In total, 162 finalists were announced, representing the best projects in renovations, new-home construction, design and building science across Metro Vancouver.

“SGDI is honoured to be nominated for the 2019 Ovation Awards,” said Rob Gallop, director of sales and operations. “Being a finalist amongst so many reputable companies means so much to us and pushes us to be innovate and provide unique design solutions for our clients.”

Kemp Construction Management Ltd. added that they are thrilled as well to be chosen as a finalist.

“These awards started 10 years ago and highlight the best projects HAVAN members have built, renovated, designed and marketed in Metro Vancouver,” said president Steve Kemp. “The customers for our project ‘Boundary Bay Beachside’ wanted a new home to be one to enjoy with family and friends in their retirement in the ‘new to them’ beach community of Boundary Bay. We so appreciated the seamless working relationship between the design team, customer and all our suppliers and trades. A big thanks to everyone involved in this project – you worked with us to deliver a very high quality and beautiful home.”

In 2017, Kemp Construction received an Ovation Award for Best Renovation between $200K and $399K also in Boundary Bay and has been a finalist in several provincial level awards including Best Certified Custom Home and Best Renovation Under $300K.

Winners of the 2019 HAVAN Ovation Awards, will be announced on Saturday, May 4.
