All staff and residents at Delta View are screened twice daily for symptoms of COVID-19.

Some encouraging news as the coronavirus, so far, hasn’t appeared to have spread at an East Delta long-term care facility.

Fraser Health confirmed last Saturday that an employee at the Delta View Care Centre tested positive for COVID-19.

The 296-bed facility on Burns Drive consists of two care homes -- the 216-bed Delta View Life Enrichment Centre and the 80-bed Delta View Habilitation Centre.

Dr. Bonnie Henry, the provincial health officer, today said there hasn’t been additional confirmed cases at the Delta facility.

Fraser Health says additional comprehensive control measures have been put in place at Delta View.

Several care homes in Greater Vancouver have had cases of the virus with the worst outbreak having occurred at the Lynn Valley Care Centre in North Vancouver.

Henry today noted one of her public health orders was for all public health sector employees at public and private care facilities, including long-term care, assisted living and acute care, to remain only at one facility to reduce the risk to vulnerable seniors as well as staff.

She said one problem was that care facilities had a patchwork system of care providers moving between facilities, increasing the risk of transmission between care homes.
