A COVID-19 outbreak at an East Ladner long-term care home has resulted in several deaths.

Early last month Fraser Health declared an outbreak at Good Samaritan – Delta View Care Centre, which previously had exposure events involving staff members but no deaths.

According to Good Samaritan’s Society’s website, which was updated Monday afternoon, the facility currently has nine active resident COVID-19 cases, 20 active employee cases, while six residents have passed away.

In a letter dated Nov. 28 to family members, Scott Fielding, vice-president of operations, quality, and clinical supports, noted at the time a total of five residents passed away.

“I know that this is information nobody wanted to receive, but I want to assure you that we continue to comply with all of the public health orders and are working closely with Fraser Health,” he wrote.

The letter at that time noted there were 10 active COVID-19 resident cases and 18 active employee COVID-19 cases.

While they still require residents to isolate in their rooms on all units out of an abundance of caution, several units are also on contact droplet precautions.

As with other long-term care facilities which have experienced outbreaks, Fraser Health has worked with the site to support the implementation of enhanced control measures.

Delta View is a 296-bed long term care facility that is owned and operated by the Good Samaritan Society.

Outbreaks and deaths in Delta during the pandemic have also occurred at KinVillage (South Court) and at Delta Hospital.
