The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

Ladner

Nov. 26, 12 p.m., 5200-block of Ladner Trunk Road: Complainant reported a theft of coffee and mugs from shelf display at coffee shop. The suspect cleaned off display shelf into a black rolling bag and fled the store on foot, bypassing the cashier without making any attempt to pay for the items.

Nov. 27, 11:40 p.m., 6000-block of Admiral Boulevard:Police receive reports of a break and enter that occurred at the golf course. The suspect accessed a locked fridge in the patio area and stole approximately 50 beers and an unknown amount of empty cans and bottles.

Nov. 28, 9:26 a.m., Delta Street and Bridge Street:Complainant reported that an elderly man drove through two sets of four-way stop signs on Bridge Street. Police spoke with the registered owner who stated he was down at the bakery on Delta Street around the same time but didn't recall running any stop signs. The complainant stated the driver did stop at one of the stop signs last minute, but simply didn’t wait his turn at the second four-way stop. The driver was advised to be careful in the future.

Nov. 29, 1:29 p.m., 7000-block of Highway 17:Police were conducting laser enforcement when officers noticed a vehicle accelerating to a high rate of speed with a visual estimation of 130 km/h. Radar locked the speed at 135 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was served a violation ticket. Driver charged with excessive speeding under the Motor Vehicle Act and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Nov. 29, 1:35 p.m., 5500-block of Highway 17:Police were conducting laser enforcement when officers noticed a vehicle accelerating to a high rate of speed with a visual estimation of 140 km/h. Radar clocked the speed at 142 km/h in a clearly labelled 80 km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was served a violation ticket. Driver charged with excessive speeding under the Motor Vehicle Act and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

 

Tsawwassen

Nov. 26, 7:53 a.m., 3900-block of 28B Avenue: Complainant reported a break and enter at his construction site. Police attended and spoke with employee who stated the site had been locked for the weekend with the keys being hidden under the site trailer. At some point over the weekend the keys had been used to enter a shipping container and approximately $5,000 in tools were unaccounted for.

Nov. 26, 5:29 p.m., 1000-block of Eden Crescent: Complainant reported a break and enter occurring to his residential garage. The complainant advised that approximately $5,000 in assorted power tools and two bicycles were stolen. Police attended the residence and confirmed the point of entry/exit to be an unlocked side access door.

 

Nov. 27, 8:46 a.m., 5200-block of 6TH Avenue: Complainantreported her vehicle had been broken into overnight while parked in her driveway. Passports and Nexus cards belonging to herself and son were stolen from centre console. Nothing else stolen. Vehicle left unlocked. A neighbour advised she found the complainant’s son’s Nexus card discarded on her front lawn.

 

Nov. 30, 12:20 a.m., 1200-block of 56TH Street: Complainant called police in regards to noise coming from the gym. Police attended and spoke with a gentleman who advised he is supervising set up of film scene in shopping complex. He advised that several staff were on scene until the early hours of the morning and they had music on while setting up. They were advised to turn down music due to late hour.

 

North Delta

Nov. 27, 9800-block of River Road.: Complainant reported hearing loud noises inside a building. Police observed a male suspect inside. The male ran further inside out of view of police. Extensive fresh damage noted on exterior door. Suspect left behind several tools and recently cut metal as well as a vehicle with punched ignition and no plates.

Nov. 28, 7100-block of Nicholson Road.: Unknown suspect entered vehicle’s trunk and stole a laptop bag containing cheques. Suspect attempted to cash a cheque in neighbouring jurisdiction, but was refused.

Nov. 28, 11900-block of 74B Ave: Overnight between Nov 23/24, someone entered the complainant’s truck and stole a bag of tools.

Nov. 30, 9300-block of 120th Street: Unknown suspect punched the front lock of the business and stole cash register. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, light scruffy beard, 5'9"-6'0", medium-heavy build, white runners, dark jeans and grey hoody with black backpack with reflective strips on shoulder straps.

Dec. 1, 6600-block of Stoney Crescent.: Police responded to a residential alarm. A rear door appeared to have been forced open using pry tools. A number of rooms were ransacked and jewelry was stolen.
