A massive East Ladner greenhouse operation continues to announce new business.
Village Farms International has a joint venture with Emerald Health Therapeutics, Inc. called Pure Sunfarms.
About half already converted, the plan is to eventually have 2.2 million square feet of production space at the Delta facility producing recreational cannabis.
Pure Sunfarms this week announced it has begun shipping branded, packaged dried flower products to Saskatchewan following approval from the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority, which permits and monitors cannabis wholesalers and retailers in the province.
Pure Sunfarms expects its products to be available to Saskatchewan consumers beginning next week.
Saskatchewan is the fifth largest province by cannabis sales with roughly six per cent of Canadian sales, and is second in per capita spending on cannabis of the five largest provinces, the company notes.
With the move toward an open market cannabis model by September, there will be no cap on the number of licensed retailers (currently 44) permitted in the province, which is expected to give more consumers access to product, Pure Sunfarms adds.
The company also announced it has been accepted by the Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation as an official supplier of non-medical adult-use cannabis to the province's licensed private sector retailers and will begin shipping branded, packaged products to that province as soon as possible.
The company also has supply agreements in B.C., Ontario and Alberta.
Meanwhile, another large-scale greenhouse operation in East Ladner that’s making the switch to pot, AgraFlora Organics International, has commenced commercial cannabis cultivation.
AgraFlora has a partnership with the huge Houweling Nurseries complex on 64th Street, a 2.2-million-square-foot complex to be developed in phases.
“Management anticipates the combination of high potency and low cost will result in a product that is attractive to consumers in the retail and wholesale markets,” the company stated.
