The City of Delta has established a COVID-19 community resilience and economic recovery support team.

The working team, which will include Delta staff, the Delta Chamber of Commerce and other stakeholders from the business community, will get to work right away in an effort to plan for on-going support and ideas as the community continues to manage the COVID-19 pandemic.

At Monday’s council meeting, civic politicians endorsed a staff report, as well as the guidelines and funding plans for the support group.

Base level funding, which is included in Delta’s 2020 budget, will be used to support the Ladner Business Association ($15,000), North Delta Business Association ($15,000), Tsawwassen Business Improvement Association ($15,000), Tourism Delta ($23,000) and Delta Chamber of Commerce ($54,250), to be used for initiatives that support the economic resilience and recovery efforts of Delta businesses.

“Delta is developing a COVID-19 community resilience and economic recovery plan focused on supporting the business community and non-profit organizations as they innovate to stay open or plan to re-open as restrictions relax,” said city manager Sean McGill in his report to council. “The preliminary plan includes dedicating Delta staff and resources to a support team to work with Delta Chamber of Commerce and other business associations and stakeholders to support economic resilience and recovery in the community and increasing flexibility in base funding budgeted for Delta’s business associations and tourism organizations.”

McGill said regular updates will be provided to council on the progress of the support team and any further action that may be required from council.
