The recent cold weather snap has prompted officials of Delta’s emergency weather shelter to extend its opening hours.

The shelter opened up on Saturday night and will remain open until at least Monday, Feb. 11.

The shelter is located at the Ladner United Church, 4960-48th Ave. It is available from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

The shelter offers a warm place to sleep, hot food and drink, a chance to dry off clothes and utilize a shower facility for those in need in both South and North Delta.

Volunteers are also looking for the public’s help with donations of gift cards, which are handed out to clients who utilize the shelter.

BC Housing does provide funding for some client needs – and it is often appreciated to share grocery or food gift cards to help folks during the day.

Needed are $5 and $10 gift cards from McDonalds or other eateries and $25 gift cards for Save-on-Foods or other grocery stories.

Gift cards can be dropped off at the Ladner United Church.
