Delta getting handle on snow clearing efforts

The City of Delta is continuing its snow clearing efforts – and is making better progress thanks to a change in the weather.

After the huge dump on snow Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, roads in the municipality are in good shape according to director of engineering Steven Lan.

“Last night we really didn’t have much snow, so we were able to deal with all the first priority routes and now we are on secondary priority routes and hills this morning and into the local routes later this afternoon,” said Lan. “We have certainly been busy. It’s nice to get a break in the weather. We will be continuing to monitor the weather, but things look pretty good over the weekend.”

Lan said plowing, and salting of local roads will continue Thursday and into Friday.

After the snow stopped Wednesday, the winds picked up throughout the region.

One casualty of the wind was a tree that came crashing down near the bus shelter adjacent to the South Delta Rec. Centre in Tsawwassen.

Lan said city crews were out Wednesday morning cutting and removing the tree.

He said there were no reported damage or injuries.
