Delta’s public school support workers have reached a tentative deal with the school district.

CUPE Local 1091 today announced they’ve reached a deal following 12 sessions of bargaining that began in early May.

In a news release, president Patti Price noted that each side of the table had three members with no previous bargaining experience. She said that it speaks well to the ability of both sides to work so well together to get things done.

"With lots of good back and forth dialogue, we were able to compromise on some of the tougher issues, to make gains that each group wanted from the outset," said Price. "Our employer has always been good to deal with and we've always been able to find common ground to benefit both sides."

The news release notes that the tentative agreement also incorporates the provincial framework agreement approved by the K-12 Presidents Council in September. The current K-12 agreement expired on June 30, 2019. When ratified by CUPE locals and school district boards of trustees, the collective agreement will be in effect from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2022.

Further details will not be available until after ratification which is expected this month.
